In this episode of The Grand View, Stefan Baumann travels to the north rim of Grand Canyon National Park. This project works with a vertical canvas using the usual limited pallet of cobalt blue, alizarin crimson, cadmium yellow and white. Stefan will show you how some of the secrets of working with a large subject and shrinking it down to fit the format you are using, selecting detail, working on the direction of view and giving the viewer of your painting a sense of place. You will also see how Stefan spends a lot of time working on his preliminary sketch, working in values of grey to layout his project, lending to the completion of the painting.
